North Cascade National Park- Day One

Just some pics of a day in the park, no profound thoughts

Mt. Baker area- July 11

I've been told that the view of Mount Shuksan is one of the most photographed vistas in the world. Here's what it looked like today.

As I climbed (in car) into the midst of the Mount Baker mountain ranges in North Cascade National Park it got colder and cloudier. I had had happy thoughts of hiking Ptarmigan Trail. By the time I got to Artist Point, the highest you can drive, it was 44 degrees, totally foggy and snow was 10 feet high on the sides of the road. Oh, and there was virtually no one else around. Not the day for the big vistas and peak experiences.

Too dark, but this stump-on-rock was stunning.
Foxglove, wild, everywhere.

I drove back down until my thermostat read into the 50s and found Excelsior Pass, with visibility, plus there was evidence of a few others on the trail. So this was a day for the micro images, the small kine beauty on the side of the road and trail. Not magnificent, but oh so delicately lovely.
Still life with moss and fern. The light and composition
were perfect. Hard to capture here.

This sluice way of cold water gave me a much needed
cooling off. Despite the cool air, the uphill climb had
me sweating. No swimming, just face rinsing.

Nooksack Falls. One couldn't get close to this. A plaque told of the 8 people who had died here.
